For the past nine years the Box has been dancehall, salon and gathering place for those whom "Everyday is Halloween." Located on the main drag of downtown Santa Cruz (Pacific St.) at the notorious Blue Lagoon, the Box is gifted with excellent DJs, heavy handed bartenders and an unusually open and inviting scene. With two dance floors, the club offers a wide selection of music (not just the usual VNV, Siouxsie, Covenant selections though you will hear those too) that appeals to the hardcore rivethead, the delicate "swirlygoth," the adventurous tourist or black-clad hipster. The Box has been accused of being a "DJ's" club, with 6 resident DJs and several more rotating throughout the month. The music selection, while esoteric at times, avoids the pitfalls of predictability and routine while never forgetting the venerable favorites that defined the Goth scene almost 3 decades ago. - Jules , posted 06/30/08 |
