Recycling an old time hang out
Although the picture is a little fuzzy - the good times at Forty's are not. Forty's Pub is a great local bar in San Bruno, CA. The bar is formerly known as Newell's and has been there since the early 1900's. The bar as you can see has been completely renovated by the new owners Edwina, Mick and Walter. Rich in wood and stone the bar is very sturdy, there was a lot of love and workmanship put into building it. There is a traditional "snug", a sitting area with 2 couches, a lovely back bar with 2 pool tables and 2 dart boards. Outside of the natural light coming in through the staind glass when the day makes way for the night, the lights are dimmed and candles are lit throughout the bar. In the mornings the "old timers" still show up between 6 and 10 AM to have a drink and talk about the pony's with Gene. After that the morning and evening crew take over and your bartenders include a really cool trio: Walter, Angi and Angela rotate their days and nights in the front bar. Likewise they have Brionna keeping the festivities going in the back on the weekends. They are very accomodating, they order food in from local restraunts so you can have something to nosh on while putting back a pint of beer or other cocktail. Speaking of beers, they have 10 on tap and at least 10 or 12 in bottles to choose from. In the front they have 2 big TVs and a large projection TV where you can see everything from the Giants to the Niners to Basketball and NASCAR on Sundays. They make sure to have it all on. It's a great bar with a lot of history, charatcter and style. There is always plenty of company to welcome the newcomers. If you're looking for somewhere new on the peninsula, I'd recommend checking it out!!
