This is just not true. There is so many smoking deaths and no deaths that have been linked to cell phones. Even if all the brain cancer deaths were from cell phones, (this is not shown to be the case and there is not an increase with cell phone use), then all the brain cancer deaths is very small compared to the smoking deaths. So this story has no truth to it. Somebody must think we are stupid. - Curry , posted 05/19/08

I agree not children, but that's a pretty low incidence of disease. Not worth fussing about unless there are other risk factors.

Most Important Heads-Up Of the Year!
I have sensed for years, that cell phones are extremely hazardous to not only the health of the ones stupid enough to use them, but also the health of all the people and possibly other living beings around them. And yet, the cell phone companies and those in power, claim there's no proof of a real health hazard! Cell phones are the second-hand smoke of the human world today, folks! USE TELEPATHY INSTEAD!! It's cheaper, it's free, and no batteries required. (It's also QUIETER! I mean, how many times have you heard somebody else's private life being yacked away while you sit at a restaurant, on a train, on a bus, in the doctor's waiting room..... do you really NEED to know the gorey details of somebody's breakup or surgery or their petty criticisms and swear words?) - Linda , posted 05/18/08

As an Environmental Technologist, I have come
across a lot of information about this issue, over the
years. Much of it appears "censored". This posted article
is an interview with a cancer specialist with excellent
credentials. You might inquire into the "credentials" of
people that "down play this", with their ignorance showing.

Again, I am posting what a cancer specialist has said
about cell phones, after he had researched the issue,
for years.

While I do not use a cell phone, if I did have to, I would use a head set. It is not a question of which causes more cancer, from
my perspective. That would be like saying more people die from gun shot wounds, so I would rather be poisoned with radiation.
More over, the slight reduction in brain tumors might reflect
changes in the cell phones and transmission signals, themselves.
My friend Gizzmo works for the phone company and said there
have been such changes in cell phone tech. But I still have to
research that. But it might compare to "most people are shot
dead with a 45 auto, so please use a 38 if you are going to shoot me. It is not as lethal.

Comments that have been posted about this from Crpto give
a link to a story showing that brain tumors have decreased in
the general public. But the cited story also states that the researchers
are / were, still investigating cell phones and EMFSs.

What I suspect are the synergistic of the EMF's with the total
body burden of toxic chemicals, as EMF's have been shown
to influence the toxic impact of radon.
The EMF's can attract the radon and alter the molecular vibration, making it more of a cancer threat. The effect of EMF's
with other VOC's are "still being investigated " .

So far as cell phones causing more cancer than smoking ....
a Surgeon General named Koop had said that most cancers
associated with smoking are actually from radiation, such as
radon (of which is natural). Bu there have also been reports of
radioactive material in the fertilizer.

Brain expert warns of huge rise in tumours and calls on industry to take
immediate steps to reduce radiation

Mobile phones could kill far more people than smoking or asbestos, a study by an
award-winning cancer expert has concluded. He says people should avoid using
them wherever possible and that governments and the mobile phone industry must
take "immediate steps" to reduce exposure to their radiation.

The study, by Dr. Vini Khurana, is the most devastating indictment yet published
of the health risks.

It draws on growing evidence -- exclusively reported in the IoS in October --
that using handsets for 10 years or more can double the risk of brain cancer.
Cancers take at least a decade to develop, invalidating official safety
assurances based on earlier studies which included few, if any, people who had
used the phones for that long.

Earlier this year, the French government warned against the use of mobile phones,
especially by children. Germany also advises its people to minimise handset use,
and the European Environment Agency has called for exposures to be reduced.

Professor Khurana -- a top neurosurgeon who has received 14 awards over the past
16 years, has published more than three dozen scientific papers -- reviewed more
than 100 studies on the effects of mobile phones. He has put the results on a
brain surgery website, and a paper based on the research is currently being
peer-reviewed for publication in a scientific journal.

He admits that mobiles can save lives in emergencies, but concludes that "there
is a significant and increasing body of evidence for a link between mobile phone
usage and certain brain tumours." He believes this will be "definitively proven"
in the next decade.

Noting that malignant brain tumours represent "a life-ending diagnosis," he adds:
"We are currently experiencing a reactively unchecked and dangerous situation."
He fears that "unless the industry and governments take immediate and decisive
steps," the incidence of malignant brain tumours and associated death rate will
be observed to rise globally within a decade from now, by which time it may be
far too late to intervene medically.

"It is anticipated that this danger has far broader public health ramifications
than asbestos and smoking," says Professor Khurana, who told the IoS his
assessment is partly based on the fact that three billion people now use the
phones worldwide, three times as many as smoke. Smoking kills some five million
worldwide each year, and exposure to asbestos is responsible for as many deaths
in Britain as road accidents.

Late last week, the Mobile Operators Association dismissed Khurana's study as "a
selective discussion of scientific literature by one individual." It believes he
"does not present a balanced analysis" of the published science, and "reaches
opposite conclusions to the W.H.O. and more than 30 other independent expert
scientific reviews."
