Hello Folks,
This is to announce the next installment of the POLYAMORY FILM
FESTIVAL will be on Friday night, May 16th, and tentatively set to
recur on the third Friday night of each month from now on.
Each week the assembled crowd will watch a film that features
polyamory, open relationships or consensual non-monogamy in some
significant capacity or other. We have a (growing) list of about 40 or
so such films. Some are great, some are mediocre, some are real
howlers, but all are worth seeing (at least once). We are always on
the lookout for suggestions of what to add to the list. (Additions to
the line up MUST at least deal the issue of POLY to some significant
extent. If your temptation is to say, "It doesn't really have
anything to do with poly, but it's...," then don't bother).
This event will happen in Berkeley. We are asking people to show up
at 7 PM, with the film to start shortly thereafter. Although this is
not a full-blown potluck, we do encourage people to bring such snack
foods as may be appropriate for movie viewing. Please bring only items
that require minimal or no preparation or kitchen access.
The film selected for May 16th is "Loving Molly," starring Blythe
Danner. This is a relatively unknown film. It is a film version of one
of Larry McMurtry's early books entitled "Leaving Cheyenne."
(McMurtry is the same guy who later became famous for his more mainstream Western stories, such as Lonesome Dove). The basic story is of a young independent frontier woman in late 1800s Texas who fails in love with two men simultaneously, and who, despite intense pressure, insists on having them both. (The film version moves the story forward in time a few decades, but the story is the same).
Those so inclined will be allowed to hang out after the film to
discuss, critique, or malign the movie.
We have limited space in the living room, so we are encouraging
people to RSVP. We may not be able to take everybody, but we'll try to
accommodate as many as possible. Directions etc will be sent to those
who RSVP.
See you there.
