You are invited to join Chubritza International Folk Dance Band as they play a mix of traditional dance music of Eastern Europe and Israel on Saturday, October 17, at 7:30 p.m. at the Westhaven Center for the Arts, 501 S. Westhaven Drive, in Trinidad as part of the current exhibit by Beverly Zeman, "Celebrating the Jewish Year in Paintings and Prints."
Chubritza [CHEW-breet-sah] is a six-member ensemble which plays nearly thirty instruments, performing songs sung in a dozen languages. They have been the main musicians for cultural festivals throughout Northern California and Oregon for 15 years. They offer music that is raucous, mournful, and humorous, meant to stir the heart and soul, telling stories of love lost, love found and the splendor and richness of life.
For this event, Chubritza will draw from Ashkenazic and Sephardic music traditions as well as more modern Israeli and Klezmer songs and dance tunes from Eastern Europe. The second half of the evening will offer a chance to dance to their music.
Beverly Zeman's exhibit depicts the holidays of the Jewish calendar. Each holiday will be explained by word and art in chronological order. All aspects of Jewish culture are portrayed in depth and beauty in this fine art.
Tickets are $10 general, $8 for WCA members, seniors and students.
For more information, call 677-9493 or 822-8045 or go to: www.chubritza.com.
