In recognition of International Dance Day 4-29-08

Having a definitive understanding of the structure of the most popular
Belly Dance rhythms will strengthen your dance choreography.
Handouts will be given describing the rhythms in an easy to
understand format. While we will cover a wide range of popular
rhythms, please let Keeth know when you sign up if there are any
particular rhythms you'd like to work on or understand better. We will
also learn how to quickly determine what time signature any song or
rhythm is being played.

Since we will do some drumming, if you have a drum or can borrow one,
please bring it, but the emphasis of the class isn't to learn how to
play the rhythms on a drum, it's to understand the structure of the
rhythms themselves so you can dance to them more effectively. While
there will not be teaching of any dance movement, you should wear or bring
comfortable dance clothes if you want to try dancing to the rhythms.
You should also bring writing materials.

Instructor: Keeth CrowHawk is the lead percussionist for the Cal Poly
Arab Music Ensemble & drums for the Belly Dance troupe SaJa. He
teaches a weekly arabic drumming class at WR&M Dance Studio, and
facilitates recreational drum circles, both at the studio and at
Cuesta College.

Please RSVP at least 1 week in advance.
