Hey there, I'm super excited to share with you an event I'm doing up here in gorgeous Grass Valley on June 28th. 1 Giant Leap was an amazing musical and visual journey around the world, melding cultures and musicians to create an awe inspiring film/album. The follow up, "What About Me," not being released domestically until 2009, is in my hot hands, and I've put together an event to screen it in a beautiful space, then have dancing with the most expressive DJ Dragonfly. Do yourself a favor: Go watch the brief intro, previews, or indulge in a full chapter of the film at www.whataboutme.tv Prepare for goosebumps. Or laughter. Or a tear or two. Then imagine seeing it on a big screen with a sound system, together with 300 people.

And it's all going to benefit Sustainable Harvest International, and organization that teams up with local people in developing countries to help them learn and practice sustainable agriculture, rather then slash and burn the rainforest out of necessity to farm more land. They even gave me all these great things to give away to you all!

For you coming from a distance, tickets are available now via the box office (see below for details) and online here www.thecenterforthearts.org/even...e.htm

I highly encourage making a weekend of it here. There is great shopping, lovely cafes, really friendly people, gorgeous scenery, hiking, swimming all around, tasty food to be had (Ike's Quarter, a green, locally sourced New Orleans style restaurant being my favorite) and acommodations from fancy to frugal, plus camping if you'd like to indulge in some of that.

Below is the official press release (Yes that's me writing there too. Can you believe it? A whole different person) + the flier for the event.

I have a request: Even if you can't make it, please pass this on to friends you think would enjoy this!

Press release follows--->

Coming June 28th, the Center for the Arts will be presenting one of the first preview screenings in North America of the film "What About Me", the follow up to the double Grammy nominated film and album 1 Giant Leap. "What About Me" is the result of a 4 year journey by Jamie Catto and Duncan Bridgeman to 50 locations around the world to seek, as Catto puts it, "truth in many countries."

They started with basic music tracks then took a laptop and battery powered mobile recording studio to record musicians adding their part, then weaved it together to create true world music. Santana, Michael Franti, KD Lang and Michael Stipe all appear in the film, along with world music royalty such as Baaba Maal, Lila Downs, Rokia Traore, Oumou Sangare, and Zap Mama. But it's the other faces and musicians that make this project stand out. They found Chinese rappers, Gabonese Pygmies, Bedouin musicians among others, adding voices not often heard, to amazing effect.

Beyond the music, the producers sought out the wisdom of people like Eckhart Tolle, Noam Chomsky, Gabrielle Roth & Stephen Fry, talking about the big subjects universal to the human experience - Love, anger, sex, death, joy. Here again the gems of this film are people they just met along the journey - brain surgeons, grave diggers, taxi drivers.

Following the film will be dancing with DJ Dragonfly, known in the Bay Area for his Groove Garden events, featuring music that likewise blends influences of many cultures. Dragonfly is famous for his enthusiastic energetic sets, where he often drums at the same time he is spinning records, something not seen often in these parts.

The June 28th event is a benefit for Sustainable Harvest International, an organization that collaborates with local community in developing countries to develop sustainable agricultural practices, which help reduce global warming from slash and burn farming, and better enable them to feed their local community.
